No. 01/2006 – Feeling Comfortable at Home – Home Textiles are Trendsetters

Most people need an oasis of ease and comfort to recover from the daily stresses and strains. Would there be anything more convenient than the privacy of one’s home? In our home we can express our own personality. Be swayed by your awareness of life and use the multiple possibilities offered by home textiles. Simple or luxury, with bright colours or rather neutral – choose colours, designs and materials according to your lifestyle. Then your home will become a wellness oasis.

Upholstery furniture and home furnishing fabrics

Upholstery furniture invite to lounging, nestling and reading. The more cosy the better the wellness effect will be. The best: For all kinds of upholstery furniture and for each home decorating style you will find suitable fabrics. Choose the material, design and colour to your taste. If you want to give a new look to the room just simply change the fabrics. You will be surprised about the effect.

Curtains and decoration fabrics

By means of curtains and decoration fabrics you will get additional possibilities. In the living room you can put new covers on your cushions. Dark chairs can be renewed with linen coverings in light colours. Let the sunshine in through transparent curtains. Or take opaque decoration fabrics to darken the room and to protect against inquisitive looks. Colours and designs of table cloth and bed linen can be adapted to your mood. If you like a romantic and dainty ambience you can put lace doilies and embroideries as eye-catcher at special places.

Carpet Flooring and Bathroom Textiles

The appropriate floor covering for feeling well has not yet been mentioned so far. Carpet floorings are available in numerous varieties of colours and designs. They are warm and soft and just the right material for cosiness. Also in the bathroom cosiness is the key. You can set a trend with hand towels, bath towels and bathing gowns. Cuddly soft bathroom carpets will caress your feet.

Mood lifting by Colours

Choose home textiles in colours you like and which are pleasing to your eyes. Colours can exert a key influence on our well-being. Whether our mood is cheerful, calm, brisk, merry, excited or melancholy – this can be influenced by the colours in our ambience. In addition, colours make rooms larger or smaller. The impression of wideness is created by light transparent shapes, whereas dark saturated colours have the opposite effect.

Effects and use of Colours

Yellow or red, green or blue – the different colours have varying effects on our mind and on the room atmosphere.
  • Yellow: Warm and pleasant; promoting activity and creativity; making small rooms bigger and dark rooms brighter
  • Orange: Warm, inspiring, motivating, also appetising; suitable for “active” rooms where much work is done or for dining rooms
  • Red: Warm; powerful, inspiring; however, may also lead to aggressions; best effects in a large room
  • Pink: Airy, light, fresh, assuasive; trendy effects of pink surfaces and furnishings
  • Brown: Cosy and comforting; wooden shades on ceilings, walls and floors; makes rooms smaller but more comfortable
  • Black: Elegant, serious, ceremonial, aloof; no colour for large surfaces; contrast and trendsetting effects in a room
  • White: Pure, clean, light, pleasant; most suitable as neutral wall colour – large surfaces should be jazzed up with accessories like pictures
  • Violet: Concentration-supporting, but sometimes also vexing; pale lilac makes rooms pleasant; suitable as welcome in entrance areas
  • Dark blue: Gives the feeling of security, control; suitable as floor colour with the effect of uplifting the room and of making light rooms wider
  • Medium to light blue: Comforting, cool, constant, soporific; classical bedroom colour
  • Green: natural, relaxing – however, in case of high colour saturation also vexing; suitable colour for areas with occupational exposure to noise as well as for rest and relax areas.
